Lissycasey G.A.A Club Honours

While Football has been played in Lissycasey since the early days of the Association, the present club came into being in 1965. After a number of disappointments, the first County Championship title came to the club in 1971 when the junior “A” Championship was won at the expense of Killimer (2.7- 0.5) at Doonbeg. Later that year, the double was complete when the club became the first holders of the Geraldine League Title beating neighbours and then archrivals Coolmeen in the final Martin Sexton, Current chairman of the South Liberties G.A.A. Club in Limerick was the captain of that team. He also doubled as selector along with Johnie Kelly and Tommo Hill.

In all, the club has won three junior “A” championship titles. They followed their initial success in ’71 with victories in 1982 (over Naomh Eoin) And 1992 (over Cratloe) The latter victory sparked off a tremendous spell for the club with the under 21 “B” title being captures in 1993 and the Intermediate Championship title in 1994.Incidentally, Lissycasey were the inaugural winner of the Under 21 “B” Title beating St Breckans in the final of 1975 when Paddy Hill was the team Captain.
